Nourish: 15 Days of Personal Hospitality!

Day 2: Welcome

Today, I recognize that if I don’t hold the wide-open space of welcome for myself, I will feel lonely and fragmented and never truly be able to hold an honest welcome for others. Today, I will check-in with myself to see what hospitality my heart is yearning for. Without judgment I will welcome every part of myself to the table as an honored guest. I will get curious and listen to what my heart has to say as I practice personal hospitality.  Read the adapted version of The Guest House poem below and ponder what it means to welcome every part of yourself.

THE GUEST HOUSE

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

Who violently sweep your house

Empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in,

Be grateful for whatever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.
