It’s so much easier to give into fear and follow the safe route of status quo. In fact, if status quo and safety are your goal, I can help you achieve them. Here's how:
o Never challenge yourself. Stay the same and don’t pursue anything that would cause you to stretch and grow.
o Keep your blinders securely in place. Never deal with what your heart feels. Determine that it can't be trusted, maintaining inner incongruence.
o Never look out at the big wide world, or leave your backyard.
Now you should obtain your goal of status quo.
But what child ever dreampt of living a life of status quo? What child chose to stay inside because it was safe? What child avoided dreaming altogether?
I don’t know about you, but I always wanted more than bland white toast. The following exert from my book, Untamed Heart, Releasing Your Creative Genius sums it up pretty well.
“When I was young, I imagined my future as an adventure that was fast, exciting, thrilling and sexy. My exploits had all the flavor of their own renaissance-lush with color, delicious food, lavish clothing and intrigue. Not for a minute did I dream of adventure that was stale, prudent or trite. Sometimes we so civilize and pillage our lives of their color and creativity that we rob them of their beauty.”
I wanted a life of robust flavor, texture and color, like a fine wine. I’ve wanted the things that dreams are made of like the people throughout time that have chosen the risk of failure rather than settling.
Failure hurts. I get it. If you haven’t experienced failure, you haven’t taken a risk.
I’m still adjusting from my last risk and subsequent failure, but I still won’t give up on my dreams, because they are treasures that I get to steward. They are status quo transformed into possibility. They are the future.
And so one more time, I stare down the face of fear and take a bold risk. What bold dream are you stewarding today?
