Stand Up Against Slavery

Kimberism: "Men are disturbed, not by things, but by the principles and notions which they form concerning things." Epictetus Women are changing the face of business, with their compassion, partnerships, vision and new way of doing business. Today companies and individuals are connecting the pieces of their lives, and choosing to live and do business congruently.

Like the heart centered women I work with bent on making a difference in the world, one of the issues I am passionate about supporting is the work to irradiate human trafficking.

Did you know that there are more people enslaved today than at any other time in human history? Human trafficking is the world’s second largest criminal enterprise, after drugs and weapons and there are an estimated 600,000 to 800,000 children, women and men trafficked across international borders annually.

An estimated 17,500 individuals are trafficked into the USA each year. Approximately 80 percent of human trafficking victims are female, and 50 percent are children. The total market value of illicit human trafficking is estimated to be in excess of $32 billion.

That is why I am partnering with NOT FOR SALE, a non-profit organization with a mission to abolish modern day slavery.

“Not For Sale is a Campaign of students, artists, entrepreneurs, people of faith, athletes, law enforcement officers, politicians, social workers, skilled professionals, and all justice seekers united to fight the global slave trade.  The Campaign works to recruit, educate, and mobilize an international grassroots social movement that effectively combats human trafficking and slavery through “Smart Activism.” It deploys innovative solutions for every individual to re-abolish slavery -- in their own backyards and across the globe. Not For Sale believes that everyone has a skill to contribute that can free an individual living in bondage, and together we can end slavery in our lifetime.”

Recently I had the privilege of interviewing Allison Trowbridge, the Communications Director for Not For Sale where I learned that we can do our part to counter this injustice by boycotting, and BUYcotting (a new word she taught me) companies who are using slave labor through their supply chains. To find out if the companies you purchase from are getting poor ratings visit freetowork.org.

To do my part in joining the campaign against human trafficking I am contributing 10% of every membership fee from women who join our year long Moxie Me Institute Training Program for smart entrepreneurs. How can you create your own innovative to support the vision to end human trafficking in our life time?
