A few posts ago I wrote about the idea of knowing your tribe. Today I want to go a little deeper, as I broach the topic of family. Family is one of my core values in life, and not simply because I have a hefty brood. The family I am referring to doesn’t have to originate from the same blood line, the same back ground, or even the same ideologies. I believe family is established around essential qualities.
I understand that for some people the idea of family is neither safe, nor a fond notion. However, I believe that what most people want in life is to feel the sense of family, the sense of safety, and belonging. People want to know that there is a safe place to be truly authentic.
Recently when I was speaking with my coach (remember all good coaches know the values of being coached and so have their own) the topic of my family value arose in the conversation. I found myself defining the kind of business that makes my heart sing and makes me want get up in the morning. What I described was a business built around relationship, partnership, intimacy, mutual respect and trust.
I believe these factors are foundational for authentic relationships that make people want to precede verses back away. I believe people want this whether they recognize it or not.
Look at corporations that have huge turn overs, struggle to keep team spirit, and lack employee buy-in. You can bet there is a lack of genuine concern, relationship, trust, respect and the essence of family. Most likely what exists is the feeling that everyone is in it for themselves.
How are the values of relationship, trust, respect, partnership, authenticity, and the feeling of safety important within your personal and business relationships?
How are you owning and honoring these values within your life and business?
